The best advice, as pointed out, is to keep an eye on your credit file.

You mention CIFAS, but also worth pointing out that an individual can apply to have a ‘Protective Registration’ added to their credit file through the site mentioned – this essentially tells any company checking a credit file that extra care should be taken and extra checks should be done. It’sbasically a marker on a credit file (which doesn’t impact it negatively) that tells that company that the person has been a victim of fraud/identity theft. It costs £25 for 2 years.

Especially helpful, if lets say, you find bank cards being delivered to your home without applying for them, or letters from comoanies house stating you have set up a company – when you haven’t.
